OhmSpace partners with HEX20 for in-orbit demonstration of sustainable water-based propulsion technology

Rome, Italy / Southampton, United Kingdom – June 18, 2025OhmSpace, a deep-tech startup pioneering sustainable in-space propulsion technologies, has signed a contract with HEX20, a space systems company specializing in nano and microsatellite platforms, to deliver a dedicated CubeSat In-Orbit Demonstration (IOD) mission for OhmSpace’s STAR-Water-nano propulsion system.

The STAR-Water-nano is an innovative electric propulsion system that uses water as a propellant, offering a safe, cost-effective, and scalable solution for maneuvering small satellites in orbit. This upcoming IOD mission will be the first in-space validation of OhmSpace’s core technology and a critical milestone in its roadmap to deliver modular, sustainable propulsion systems for the growing small satellite market.

Under the agreement, HEX20 will lead the end-to-end mission delivery, including satellite integration, launch coordination, and operational support. The mission is planned for launch in 2026 and is aligned with both companies’ shared vision of accessible and sustainable space innovation.

STAR-Water-nano is an innovative electric propulsion system that uses water as a propellant, offering a safe, non-toxic, and cost-effective solution for satellite manoeuvring. Designed for nano and micro satellites, the system delivers high propellant efficiency while reducing operational complexity and regulatory burden, addressing key constraints faced by small satellite operators.

Under the agreement, C3S LLC will be responsible for the end-to-end mission delivery, including satellite platform provision, payload integration, launch coordination, and in-orbit operations. The collaboration brings together OhmSpace’s advanced propulsion technology and C3S LLC’s experience in delivering reliable, flight-proven small satellite missions.

We’re thrilled to be working with HEX20 for our first in-orbit demonstration. This collaboration marks a turning point in our development as we bring our water-based propulsion system from the lab to orbit. HEX20’s agility and deep expertise in satellite missions make them an exceptional partner for this pivotal step.
